How to Uninstall Webcake/Getwebcake.com from Browser?


  • Webcake/webcake 3.00 will not uninstall from Control Panel and gives error message;
  • Webcake adware manages to stop PC users from accessing things via the web;
  • Webcake stays in your hard drive and cannot be removed from there since it says it is in use but there’s no indication of its use;
  • Actual application of webcake adware will not be deleted in tools settings;
  • Installed anti-virus programs and anti-malware tools are showing clean after scans are finished;
  • Webcake is showing up with more and more extra ads offering coupons and PC health care tools.

What Has Webcake Done? 




Webcake adware is pretty bad. What it has done to the computer to make it so stubborn? Webcake adware sneaks by PC users along with some shareware/freeware. Therefore, many PC users would consider that uninstalling that program bundled by junks will help them clear off webcake adware and which turn out to be no joy. Webcake’s settlement suggests that there’s vulnerability on your system/web apps. Once it’s taken advantage, tracking cookies can be inserted into your computer without your knowledge for information theft and junks are loaded down to slice down overall computer performance. Those loaded down junks and risky items could help webcake adware to delete some system files, that’s why you will not be able to delete something and make some changes. What’s worse, webcake adware can trigger search redirect issue. Therefore, take webcake off before it causes more virus in by following the step




 

1. Disable any suspicious startup items.

For Windows XP:

Click Start menu -> click Run -> type: msconfig in the search bar -> open System Configuration Utility -> Disable all possible startup items including those of webcake.
2. Show hidden files 

a) open Control Panel from Start menu and search for Folder Options;
b) under View tab to tick Show hidden files and folders and non-tick Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) and then click OK;
c) click on the “Start” menu and then click on the “Search programs and files” box, Search for and delete these files created by webcake ad:
  • %AppData%\[random thing]
  • %AllUsersProfile%\Programs\{random thing}\
  • %CommonStartMenu%\Programs\Users\””
3. Delete all registry values related to webcake in your local hard disk C.
  • HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Regedit
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System “DisableRegedit” = “”.exe.dll
  • HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Settings\{.exe}
  • HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\DisallowRun=””

4. Remove add-ons:
Internet Explorer:
1) Go to Tools -> ‘Manage Add-ons’;
2) Choose ‘Search Providers’ -> choose ‘Bing’ search engine or ‘Google’ search engine and make it default;
3) Select ‘Search Results’ and click ‘Remove’ to remove it;
4) Go to ‘Tools’ -> ‘Internet Options’; select ‘General tab’ and click website, e.g. Google.com. Click OK to save changes.

Google Chrome
1) Click on ‘Customize and control’ Google Chrome icon, select ‘Settings’;
2) Choose ‘Basic Options’;
3) Change Google Chrome’s homepage to google.com or any other and click the ‘Manage Search Engines…’ button;
4) Select ‘Google’ from the list and make it your default search engine;
5) Select ‘Search Result’ from the list to remove it by clicking the ‘X’ mark.    

Mozilla Firefox
1) Click on the magnifier’s icon and select ‘Manage Search Engine…’;
2) Choose ‘Search Results’ from the list and click ‘Remove’ and OK to save changes;
3) Go to ‘Tools’ -> “Options”. Reset the startup homepage or change it to google.com under ‘General tab;  

5. Disable proxy
  1. Click on Tools on the menu bar
  2. select Internet options
  3. go to Connections tab
  4. select LAN settings at the bottom of the dialog
  5. under the Proxy sever, untick 'use a proxy server for your LAN (These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections).'
  6. Click OK
